可爱的小学校写给爸爸妈妈的信（1月11日）

Dear Mummy and Daddy,

We officially had formal lessons this week! Well, nothing much happened in class except that our new friend, Matteus, was much better now! He cried and stopped within a short while! I think that it was a very good job on his part. Well, we had a new addition to our class and his name is Yesukhei. We had seen him around school before and he took a short break before coming back to school. It was nice to see him back, especially since he' s in our class!

The theme for this month is Animal – Sea creatures. Ms. Angela talked to us about Jellyfish and Octopus.

Octopus lived in the dark caves under the sea. It had 8 long arms called tentacles and on each of the tentacles, it had suckers to hold on to things tightly. We also learnt that octopus could change colour to suit the surrounding. I remembered the right word was “camouflage”. It also squirted dark ink when it sensed an enemy coming so it could run away and not be seen! Weren’t those octopuses smart?

Jellyfish were also found under the sea, the same place where octopus lived. Jellyfish had many arms and they were known as stingers. With those stingers, they would sting small fishes under the sea so that the small fishes would freeze. Then, the jellyfish would use their stingers to bring those small fishes into their mouth and eat it! However, there were some small fishes who loved swimming next to the jellyfish too! Do you know why? Small fishes did that to avoid big fishes! Even big fishes were afraid of jellyfish!

Ms. Angela read us 2 books this week too! One of the books was “Shark in the park!” By Nick Sharratt and the other book was “Don’t say that word!” by Alan Katz.

“Shark in the park!” was about a little boy called Timothy Pope. He just got a new telescope and decided to test it out in the park. He looked around the park and saw the fin of the shark! But when he took a closer look, it was only a black cat. He then looked around the park again and saw the fin of the shark again! This time, it was the wing of the crow. Just then, he looked through his telescope and he thought he saw the fin of the shark again. Little did he know, it was his daddy asking him to go home! After looking through his telescope, he felt relief that there was no shark in the park. However… … …

“Don't say that word!” was about Michael who loved telling his mummy about things that happened in school. However, he always used words that were not so nice and his mummy would always screech and say “DON’T SAY THAT WORD!”

Now that we were a level higher, we were introduced to letters of the alphabets! This week, we started off with the letter “a”. “a” for apple, alligator, ant, ambulance and athlete. We also revised on the sounds of “a”.

For math, we did puzzle play and this time, some of us were introduced to a 4 piece jigsaw puzzle, some of us could do it independently.

We also did sorting of colours using our duplo set. We started with the basic colours of red, yellow and blue. With blocks, we were also asked to stack it high up! After doing this activity as a class, we were then given a colour each to stack our own building. It was interesting. Some of us even attempt to help one another!

For art, we did an octopus and a jellyfish each.

For the octopus, we did collage on the toilet paper roll, colour the 8 tentacles and stick them unto the toilet paper roll. It did look like an octopus.

For the jellyfish, we painted the containers that you brought for us! With that, Ms. Angela paste scotch tape round the containers and we stick raffia strings unto the scotch tape. With the raffia string bawling down the container, it looked pretty much like a jellyfish. I could not wait to show it to you!
